Wishlist October 2015

So it's been a while since I was last here. The reason why shall be blogged about in the future. But for now, here's a lovely, materialistic post of all the stuff i currently want to buy...

Firstly, I want everything in the new Sweaty Betty catalogue that dropped through my door today. All of it. I seriously think it makes my yoga better ;)

But mostly...

Padmasana Yoga Leggings, £70, Sweaty Betty

Shiva Yoga Leggings, £85, Sweaty Betty

Snowflake top, £60, Sweaty Betty

Eco Yoga Mat, £40, Sweaty Betty

I love Sweaty Betty. As you can probably guess, I don't like plain black fitness gear so love the colours in their latest stuff. Want. It. All.

Wishlist #24 - Can I start thinking about summer yet?

With the sun FINALLY appearing and it feeling a bit warmer, I've started thinking about those holiday clothes. Lots of colour, no more black, floaty, lovely and no more coats!

I keep clothes for far too long and looking at pics of recent holidays, they're all too small and old. They are being binned/charity-donated.

So, it'll be big shopping this year! And here's a few i've got my eye on...

Dress, £24.99, H&M

Dress, £7.99, H&M

Sandals, £32, Warehouse

Trousers, £45, Warehouse

Trying to work out if i can pull off these trousers, which I LOVE.

And this skirt would be lovely for the office during the warm weather (does anyone else struggle with office clothing for hot weather? I hate it).

Skirt, £85, Warehouse

Bring on the summer!

A baaa-rilliant day out

Two years ago, myself and Ali headed to Bristol. Not for the shopping, not for the food (although we did partake of those) but rather to hunt for some Gromits.

This summer, another wonderful Aardman character is making an appearance in the South West. This time it's the turn of Shaun the sheep - and first, a flock of 50 individually designed Shaun the Sheep statues are hiding in London, before another 70 head to Bristol in July.

We headed to London on Saturday to start our hunt. They have developed a great app with the map of  where the statues are hiding, and it's great to use with kids to see the sites of London as they are spread from Paddington to Canary Wharf. We don't have kids, but still had far too much fun!

We seriously underestimated the weather - it was freezing, and we did not dress warmly enough! It's also a really long walk - but I saw bits of London I've never seen before (including a very quiet shopping centre that I must get back to!). It's also very weird walking around the City, as the financial parts of London virtually shut down on the weekends. Shops were closed, no coffee shops (we managed to find an open one but it was rammed - and disgusting) and so you can admire the architecture of the City in peace! Very surreal.

It was a fab day, we reckon we walked about 10 miles - in total we found 36 out of the 50 London Shauns. We'll be heading back to finish the 50!

And here's the pics...

Most of them have little things that make you laugh - like Nelson's pigeon!

A Cornish break...

Two weeks ago, we headed to St Ives.

Nick loves St Ives. He loves the beach, the sea and everything in that town. I have never been.

This normally annoys me - I like to explore new places together! But it was just SO beautiful there, that it was worth the four hour drive to get there!

The view from our hotel helped...

The weather was glorious. We still needed a jacket occasionally - but it was stunning. The sea was turquoise, and had the temperature been different, you'd never know you were in the UK.

I totally got snapped doing a selfie.

I meditated on the rocks...

A different kind of work day

Last year I blogged about a team volunteering event at a local farm, where we spent the day doing manual labour clearing brambles and bushes and other horrible things!

Last week, our team volunteered again, this time in Birmingham, running something called Money Live. I genuinely feel lucky that I work for a company that actively encourages volunteering, and the day was certainly a very different kind of work day for me!

Money Live is a Financial Education experience for young people, where they visit different scenarios on the Safe Side 'street'. The volunteers (us!) run interactive sessions where they can learn about savings accounts and ATMs (in the mini Nationwide branch), budgeting and looking for best value offers (in the mini Co-op store), about online safety in the internet cafe, find about bankruptcy in the model court, look at bills and payments in the house and clamber on the double decker bus to learn about credits and debits.

How did they get the bus in there?

The team getting ready before the kids arrived!!

Kat was the judge in the court - complete with wig!

The kids have to decide on the verdict in the court... we may have practiced before they arrived!

Chris and his branch!

Vicky ran the Co-op for the day!

No idea why I'm on this bike!

I had no idea what to expect. I don't have kids, so I will admit that I was worried about even speaking to them! I ran the internet cafe, geek that I am, and talked about keeping your money safe. I showed them about ATM skimming devices and talked about identity theft and fraud. I learned a lot too!

The sessions are normally run for years 9 - 11, so secondary school pupils. To make it even tougher, we were told that we running a pilot session for primary school children! But we needn't have worried - they were so engaged, and pretty fascinated about everything. Willing to have a go and try and work out interest rates and percentages, and were pretty knowledgeable about internet shopping in my session!

It was an incredibly worthwhile way to spend a day, and all of our team are just lining up for another opportunity to do it again. Even if the kids take one thing away, hopefully we've done a good job. It was a genuinely fantastic resource - and they run sessions on lots of different topics, like safety and life skills, and I really enjoyed taking part.
